A couple of vultures from the Aberdeen Bestiary, England, early 13th century. Vultures were believed to live up to a hundred years and to conceive their young asexually. Because of this, they were cited as proof of the possibility of the virgin birth of Jesus. On the other hand, a vulture's presence was believed to be able to foreshadow death.
