The personification of the sun and the people under his influence from the Hausbuch von Schloss Wolfegg, Germany, ca. 1470. The seven metals of medieval alchemy corresponded to the five known planets, the sun, and the moon. The sun was associated with gold, faithfulness, ambition, trust, and a pure heart, but also with arrogance, pride, domineering behavior, and foolishness. Professions under his charge included kings, princes, and other rulers.
